In this modern age, where technological advances have emerged and blossomed into new storytelling mediums, many of us in this generation are still in the process of incorporating such technologies into our daily lives as new ways to learn, reminisce, memorize, and preserve new knowledge. It is common to see many who are still hung up on physical copies of books. However, as stated in the introduction of Hamlet on the Holodeck, there are certainly new ways of storytelling that cannot be told unless digitalized. As human beings, equipped with advanced visual and auditory comprehension abilities, we naturally adapt to seeing and hearing about events in order to feel them. By utilizing the technologies that allow us to express our imaginations in digital formats, creators tell their stories via methods such as games, VR experiences, and other digital platforms.

For instance, interactive storytelling games have become a popular genre in the world of both video games and movies. In 2018, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Quantic dream released Detroit: Become Human, an interactive adventure game that had passed 6 million units sold worldwide. Detroit: Become Human dives into a futuristic world in which the human race creates lifelike androids as servants and companions in their everyday lives. Players are exposed to a complex story told by making decisions through prompts, which create lasting impacts on the relationships between the Android and people. The message of the story revealed the complicated consequences of some Android "deviants" that developed their own free will and wish to break free from the control of their creators. Depending on the choices players make when prompted throughout the 12-hour duration of the game, "good" or "bad" endings can be reached. Such a way of storytelling by means of being provided with limited choices and outcomes allow players to be fully immersed in the narrative. The overall complexity of the story can be difficult to portray in any other forms of media, the full experience is made possible by the design of a game that relies on visual elements in order for us to sympathize with the characters.

Another example of media being an effective medium for storytelling is the Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, a movie on Netflix with different endings. The movies offers a variety of choices for the audience to make throughout to experience different circumstances and get to different endings. Bandersnatch encourages the audience to replay and retry multiple attempts to unveil the whole story. Being able to interact with impactful choices creates an immersive atmosphere that keeps the audience on their toes, waiting for their next dilemma to come.
